As you may know, UEFA Foundation for Children help disadvantaged children through sport, and particularly football, by providing support in the areas of health, education, access to sport, personal development, integration and defending the rights of the child. They do this all over the world and always work together with a local charity. Late last year they chose Mama Alice as the first NGO in Ayacucho. The camps are organized at our restaurant, where we have the space and facilities to house the children safely. Every week (until the end of February) 30 children from the Mama Alice families are going to eat together, play together and sleep in little tents at the entrance of QuinuaQ.
Last week the first camps started and the result surpassed all our expectations. The children had a lot of fun, they learned to work as a team and that together you can achieve more than just by yourself. They learned how to make friends. This sounds like it’s a no brainer, but for most of the children making friends is not easy and sometimes even impossible. Their social skills have improved as well as their self esteem. All in all, the camp delivers what it promises.
As our guest at QuinuaQ you will notice their presence in and around the restaurant between Mondays and Fridays. Please note that the kids may be excited. Our aim is to keep them happy and to allow them to be children, in some cases for the first time in their lives. So far we have had no complaints from our guests, it is great to see that the two worlds can co-exist (restaurant and kids-camp). But just in case a child is bothering you, please contact our staff and we will try to solve the issue as quickly as we can. But please realize that QuinuaQ is their home for the week and therefore other rules may apply to them.
